Went to a friend’s and jacked up the LS400. Suspension seemed fine until I got to the rear right and the UCA is so trashed I could wiggle it forward and back until metal touched metal with my hand. Whelp. Look it up and a control arm is 200 fucking dollars. For a stamped steel fucking perfectly normal-ass control arm. What the shit. I miss my fucking miata.
oh and the rear left wheel bearing area is making some weird-ass squealing noise. That’s cool. Those bearings aren’t a complete and total ass to replace or anything.
Have a picture of my car’s doppelgaanger feat my broken ass air vent that pisses me the fuck off every time I see it but is also a $200 fucking part used for some goddamn reason.

that is incredibly disturbing.

Can you take the arm off and put new bushings in?
![]() 04/02/2019 at 22:33 |

It’s a $200 part because that is officially an old ass car.

I know. But that's like... My only problem, minus the stereo situation.

Can’t buy the bushings

I literally just replaced the entire front suspension on an equally as old mazda with far more expensive to manufacturer cast aluminum control arms for like $130 total. Control arms for a fucking contemporary S-class V12 are like $40.

Jesus, that’s what a genuine BMW LCA for my wife’s ‘13 BMW costs, and its an aluminum deal.

Too bad there aren;t any aftermarket ones for you
:(

yeah it’s apalling

If it makes you feel better, the LCA for my Land Rover was like triple (possibly quadruple) that.

Pretty sure my 92 Caravan is older:
Parts are expensive because Lexus, not because old.

Cant you take it apart, measure the bushings, then go buy them?
![]() 04/03/2019 at 09:27 |

Would likely have to be custom. They’ve got these weird shoulders on them.

Ah, makes sense.
Rockauto has the fronts for like 35-40 each, but I see no listings for rears.

Yeah, it’s amusing. No rears for my other Lexus, either.

Not sure where my first reply went, but boom https://psbushings.com/lexus-ls/ polyurethane UCA bushings. They also make bushings for like all the rear suspension linkage arms, and some for the front but poly doesn’t ride nicely I’ve heard. The real bugger boo of the rear uca is that the ball joint is non serviceable. Welcome to the surprises of keeping a 60k 20 year old car on the road!
